Dolmen PS5, PS4 Release Date Announced

Sci-fi horror role-playing game Dolmen will release on the PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4 on May 20th, developer Massive Work Studio has announced. Those who preorder the game will receive the Rebel set, which includes armor, axe, and sword.

Inspired by the works of H. P. Lovecraft, Dolmen is set on the planet of Revion Prime, where players are sent as a mercenary to contain a human-created disaster as well as retrieve sensitive data from the doomed operation. The game features cosmic horror elements, Souls-like mechanics, and exploration.

Dolmen PS5 will utilize DualSense features

Over on the PlayStation Blog, Massive Work Studio confirmed that Dolmen will take advantage of the DualSense‘s adaptive triggers. However, no further details were shared. The team has promised detailed art and graphics, text localization in more than 12 languages, and “great” voice actors and music artists. The game’s cast has yet to be revealed.

“The art team tried to pull out every phobia they could find in the books and materialized them into an enemy trying to kill the character,” the studio wrote. “Are you afraid of spider/insect-like creatures? Are you afraid of the undead? Infernal fiends grasping chains while trying to reach you? Gigantic monsters climbing buildings or moving below the earth? Maybe flying terrors or dark matter assassins? Well, this game has them all.”

Dolmen features both melee and ranged combat. Ranged weapons require a little bit of energy, which also has other uses, so players will have to manage energy because it doesn’t regenerate. “A unique mechanic of the game, called Energy Mode, allows the character to expend energy instead of stamina to perform melee attacks,” the developer explained. “During this energized condition, attacks are enhanced with one of the elements, causing extra damage; however, the best result will occur if the weapon has the elemental damage buff that the enemy is vulnerable to.”

Opinion: Dolmen looks promising

Zarmena writes… I’m not a huge fan of the horror genre but Dolmen looks like a promising effort from a small studio. The game features an intriguing art style and although its premise sounds all too familiar, Dolmen will be worth a shot if executed right. My only concern is the ‘Souls-like’ system here. Often games that seek inspiration from Souls end up over-promising and under-delivering. Here’s hoping that’s not the case here.

In other news, Battlefield 2042’s revamped scoreboard is finally here, and a dataminer may have found references to Elden Ring DLC or cut content in the game’s files.
