The NPD Group’s Mat Piscatella recently shared January 2022’s video games industry sales data for the United States, revealing that PlayStation 5 was the best-selling console of the month. Buried in between all his tweets was another significant piece of information: Insomniac Games’ Spider-Man: Miles Morales expansion for the PS5 and PS4 has become Sony’s third biggest release in the country in terms of dollar sales since 1995! Miles Morales is now only trailing behind 2018’s Spider-Man and God of War.
How many copies has Spider-Man: Miles Morales sold?
Sony hasn’t released any sales data lately. We got the last official figure nearly a year ago, according to which Miles Morales had sold over 6.5 million copies within eight months. We can only imagine what the revenue looks like. According to NPD, the expansion was the sixth best-selling game of 2021 in the U.S. and it maintained its position in the top chart in January.
US NPD PREMIUM GAMES – Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales ranked as the 6th best-selling game of January. Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales now trails only Marvel’s Spider-Man and God of War (2018) in lifetime dollar sales for Sony published titles since 1995.

Opinion: Handing over Spider-Man to Insomniac Games was an excellent decision
Zarmena writes… Spider-Man is undoubtedly one of the world’s most popular superheroes but plenty of superhero games have suffered from poor sales in the past due to lackluster execution (sorry, Marvel’s Avengers). And considering Miles Morales is an expansion rather than a full-fledged game, this is quite a feat for a studio that has been churning out hit after hit. Sony must be patting itself on the back repeatedly for purchasing Insomniac Games!
